For the love of Ben
Well, I got a wrong number when I tried to rent a room
We spoke for three hours that day
I learned he was in business with some guy from Italy
But I didn’t catch his name
Well I didn’t think I’d ever, ever hear from him again
But I couldn’t just forget
When I heard him in the park calling out his dog’s name
I knew I couldn’t let
The chance go by to say, “Hey, I like you”
The chance go by to see you again
The chance go by to learn more about you
And to meet your dog if I can
Well they say you gotta love a man’s dog to be his girl
And I’d say that was true
And they say you gotta love him like he was your very own
If you want him to love you too
So we sat down on a park bench and we held each others’ hand
While the dog licked my shoe
He said, “I think he likes you” as I scratched behind his ears
It was then that I knew I didn’t let the
Chance go by to say, “Hey I like you”
The chance go by to see you again
The chance go by to learn more about you
And I like your dog named Ben
Now Ben and me we got close as the dating game began
Our walks were so fun
He’d run around the park and sniff out other doggies’ butts
But when I’d call, he would come
Oh, he liked to catch a Frisbee and he’d never give it back
Chasing rabbits was his fave
He’d do his business in the yard of the guy across the street
Couldn’t make him behave
And then one day, his owner said,
“I’ve got to go, ‘cause we’re just wrong.”
I said, “But wait, can’t you stay?
“You see I’ve fallen in love with your dog!”
